Who I Believe

Who I Believe

I believe in Jesus. Next question… 😊. There are two ways in which I believe in Jesus. First, I believe in Jesus in a theological sense. I turn to the Apostle's Creed where it says that I believe in

"Jesus Christ, His [God's] only, Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
On the third day He rose again;
He ascended into heaven,
He is seated at the right hand of the Father;
He will come to judge the living and the dead."

I am sure there are other creeds or statements of faith from various Christian traditions that would echo this creed. I seek a historic, orthodox, traditional rendering of faith in Jesus. Thus, I believe in Jesus from a theological standing.

Second, I believe in Jesus in a personal sense. My "personal" Jesus. This is the Jesus that I talk to throughout the day. The Jesus that talks to me and gives me wisdom. The Jesus that I spend specific time with every morning in prayer, reading the Bible, meditating on my prayers and readings, and write to and with in my daily journal. The Jesus who is always here with me.

Emmanuel.
God with us.

The Jesus who has brought me through tough times and rejoiced with me in great times. The Jesus who, if I ever would walk away from my faith, I would miss deeply and dearly, like the death of a parent or friend. The most important person, the most important God, in my life.

This is who I believe.
